December 2014

A Message from Your Chapter Chair, Dan Traver, CEM

Hello Everyone!

Wow.  I can’t believe that the year is coming to an end already.  As I get older it seems as though each year goes by faster and faster.  Anyway, I guess that is life, but what a great year we had!  I want to thank all of you for the opportunity to be Chairperson of this GREAT Chapter!  It was truly an honor.

We tried some different things this year that I hope you all enjoyed.  It started in January shifting away from wiffle ball and giving kickball a try.  Congratulations to Valley Expo for winning the first annual kickball tournament.  It was a fun event and we look forward to getting a few more teams to join in 2015.

The Midwest Chapter is the second largest chapter in the country.  I am passionate about continuing to encourage the membership to be engaged and get closer as a community.  There are so many people with so many great ideas and experiences - it is imperative that those messages get out to the younger generation to carry on. We started the Member Mixers as a new engagement strategy to do just that. Cultivating those relationships in a casual setting and continuing to build on our great community.  I hope to see more of you next year as we continue to do them and improve upon them.

I am truly excited about extending our relationship with our Chapter Charity, Chicago Hornets.  The kids that are part of this hockey team are truly amazing.

I had the opportunity to meet Isabelle at out Christmas Party and what an outstanding young lady she was.  We hope to have a rematch with them early next year to try and get our revenge from a tough loss last time.

Lastly, Happy Holidays to everyone!  This is the most important time of the year to step back, enjoy our families and loved ones, and remember why we work every day. The passion we all have for our industry is like no other. It was great to see so many of you in L.A. at Expo! Expo! and I hope to see you all at Convening Leaders in January.  It was an amazing year and you are all in for a real treat for what Lisa Goecke, your incoming Chairperson, has planned for you in 2015!

- Dan

This Quarter’s Highlights

IAEE Midwestern Chapter Holiday Party with Educational Program

On December 3, 2014 we held our annual holiday event at Kendall College Chicago. We took a culinary and beverage stroll through several of Chicago's distinctive ethnic neighborhoods while learning about the local cuisine and how to best pair food and beverage.  Neighborhood information cards with food details, including drink recipes, were available at each station.

Midwestern Chapter Reception at Expo! Expo!
Our chapter reception was a great way to get to know our fellow chapter members while in Los Angeles at Expo! Expo! It was great seeing everyone sporting their “I heart MWC” stickers on their badges during the event. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at our events this year as well as next year in Baltimore.

Member Social Event
We held a member social event on Tuesday, November 11 at Theory in Chicago. Thank you for everyone who came out and keep an eye on our Facebook for upcoming social events.
