March 2016

A Message from Your Chapter Chair, Jennifer Kimball

Hello, Midwest Chapter! Are you ready to hear about what the amazing Midwest Chapter Board has in store for you in 2016?  I thought so.

We've gotten off to a strong start already this year, from a feisty kickball tournament to a very successful educational program to a Young Professional's meet-up with over 30 attendees, and we have much more to come. We are working hard to ensure there is something for everyone in the chapter to participate in and the best way to be aware of these opportunities is to check out our website and follow us on social media (you can find all of our social media links below).

Our incredible Board and their committees are continually working on new ways to better serve our members; from outdoor activities to YP meet-ups to golf to riveting programming at our educational events, if you are bored this year it isn't our fault!  If you want to be a part of this exciting group please click here to let us know. We have so many committees and opportunities to choose from, and it's the participation of our members that makes us as strong and interesting as we are, so now is the time to get started!

At our February Board meeting we focused on realigning our goals to better serve you, and so our dedicated team is working on improving our communication to better convey opportunities within the chapter, and engaging more members through varied networking opportunities that encourage participation. We are working hard to provide innovative ways for our members to network through memorable experiences. See our upcoming events list for one of our new opportunities!

I am incredibly proud of the dedication of this team and along with our Immediate Past Chair, Lisa Goecke Malikow, our Vice Chair, Brett Kolinek and Treasurer, Brent Linkin look forward to continuing the momentum of building a stronger, more vibrant chapter for you.

I hope to see you soon!

Kimball

Educational Program and Member Mixer: The Natural Relationship between Attendee Acquisition and Exhibit Sales

On February 24th, the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center rolled out the red carpet to host a panel filled with diverse presenters from many aspects of the industry. The discussion focused around finding ways to attract and acquire new attendees to an event rather than focusing all of a planner's attention on exhibit sales. The discussion broadened views on market segments and how to support new industry sectors at events.

Additionally we held our volunteer drive, so if you're interested in finding more information on our committees please visit here or take our volunteer survey.

Young Professionals - Day in the Industry Program

Young Professionals - Day in the Industry Program

On February 26th, students from DePaul University participated in the IAEE Midwestern Chapter Young Professionals "Day in the Industry" program. Students spent the day with David Berrios and Corcoran Expositions at the Chicago Golf Show.

The "Day in the Industry" program gave students the opportunity to observe exhibitor move in and gain hands-on experience by assisting with exhibitor registration. At the Chicago Golf Show, they also had the chance to shadow the Exhibits Manager. One of the DePaul students, Kenzie Mocogni said, "I was so impressed with the event in many different aspects.  There is no better way to learn than through hands on experience and the advice of successful people who are willing to help and offer tips."
