October 2014

A Message from Your Chapter Chair, Dan Traver, CEM

Dear Friends,

Wow! I can’t believe that it's already October. It is amazing how fast time goes these days. Because of this, creating change is hard.  With everyone so busy it is easier to just do what we did “last” year.  At the IAEE Midwestern Chapter we are trying to make changes so that they benefit everyone involved.

We are starting small with events such as our Member Socials (the next one is November 11 at Theory downtown – see below for details). We have such a strong area of Show Managers and Suppliers and we NEED more of you to attend. Our Chapter is built on you, our members.

Change is good. Our Holiday Party this year will show a postive change. In the past, this event consisted of an educational session followed by a networking reception. Let’s face it, everyone wanted just the networking. So, this year, with the help of our partners at Kendall College, we are bringing education and networking together to create one great holiday celebration. Join us and learn about food and beverage pairings as they relate specifically to some tradition rich Chicago neighborhoods. The best part of this event is that it will allow everyone to be engaged in a great social environment. This may seem like a very small change, but we are moving the needle.

Finally, thank you to all of you who attended our Annual Meeting and helped us celebrate the 40th Anniversary of our great Chapter. What an awesome presentation and an even better turnout. We are truly excited about what the next 40 years will bring and we hope to continue to make positive changes and become the best chapter in the country!

- Dan

This Quarter’s Highlights

Golf Outing
The 25th Annual IAEE MWC Golf Outing was a great success with 23 foursomes and bringing in over $3000 in donations for our chapter charity the Chicago Hornets.  This event is only made possible because of the support of our Platinum, Trade, Gold and Silver sponsors.

2014 Annual Meeting and 40th Anniversary Celebration
Held on September 24 at Maggiano’s in downtown Chicago, Greg Risberg presented useful ideas on how to reduce stress and relax under pressure.  This funny yet informative educational session focused on communicating more effectively and changing your negative think tank. Check out our photo gallery

Member Social Event
We held our first ever member social event on Thursday, August 28 at Buddy Guy’s Legends. It was a fun way to head into the Labor Day weekend with a few drinks, snacks, good friends and good music.
