A Message from Your Chapter Chair, Jennifer Kimball

Welcome to the 2nd quarter newsletter!  It's as exciting as getting that email from Netflix about when Season 6 of The Walking Dead will be released, right? No? Could you just pretend for a minute that it is just to make me happy?

I couldn't be more pleased with the progress the Midwest Chapter has made in engaging our membership in new and interesting ways this year. We not only continue to attract the best and brightest of the meetings and events industry to our Board, our committees and our meetings, but we have channeled that energy into our programming and our educational offerings.

You can read more below about our YP meetup, Sweatworking and very successful June educational event, but suffice it to say that the momentum is growing and we have much more planned for the coming months.

We are especially excited for our Annual Meeting in September, we not only have the 2016 IAEE Chair, Julie Smith speaking, but also Shelley Row who will be presenting "Go With Your Gut: Effective Decision-Making in an Over-Thinking World".  I had the pleasure of seeing her speaking at the Women's Leadership Forum in D.C. and I find I still use so much of what she had to say daily. This program is not to be missed! You can register here.  We also have our Golf Outing, our concurrent meetup with our other Chapter cities on August 25th and we are planning our holiday party as I type!

Of course none of this would be possible without the dedication of our committee volunteers, and we have decided to recognize them with a Volunteer of the Year award. The winner will be recognized at the Annual Meeting in September.  We have also opened up applications for the Young Professional Scholarship, more information on that is below. I can't stress enough how important it is for industry professionals to be involved on the chapter level, and we on the Board are continually thinking of ways to encourage participation.  Our committees are always open to new volunteers, if you are interested please reach out to me.  And like us on social media, we're really a lot of fun. :-)  And we're not only fun, but we're tech savvy too!  Our industry is embracing technology and so is IAEE.  CoreApps has generously sponsored chapter apps for each IAEE Chapter. Our app will contain information on our programs, our sponsors and our meetups.  To download the app, go to your app store on any device and search 'IAEE Member Direct'. Then on the bottom right, click 'Chapters', and select "Midwestern'.

Thank you for your time in reading this. I welcome your feedback, ideas and appreciate your participation in our industry and our chapter!

Quarterly Highlights

Talking Like TED II; Educational Program and Networking Event

On June 8th the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel hosted our second Talking like TED Educational Program. In typical TED fashion, 3 presenters from diverse aspects of the industry took the lead in educating our attendees. The presentations were about audio visual trends, sponsorship, and solutions for small events. The presentations were followed by a beautiful reception on the Renaissance's rooftop with fresh, seasonal food and live music. Thank you Renaissance Schaumburg!

Sweatworking Meet Up!

The Young Professional Committee put on the first ever Sweatworking event! The idea was to stray away from the norm of happy hours. Chapter members spent a late afternoon networking with a health focus. The group went through a workout together in Millennium Park with built in teamwork aspects, and networking followed.

See a bit of the friendly competition from the night
